Vinyl Records
Vinyl Records
Vinyl records are analog sound storage media created from polyvinyl chloride which is circle in shape and contains many grooves. These analog music media can be easily associated with the 60s to 80s music but did you know that these are still being used even well into the 21st century? In fact, almost 2.9 million records were sold in 2008!
Uses
Many music collectors and enthusiasts argue that this kind of records just produce music of better quality than their electronic counterparts - CDs and DVDs. Still, these are often best used for certain types of music only - hip hop, punk, electronic dance music, and jazz - and used by audiophiles and DJs to mix and play music. Collectors also prefer such records for their rarity - an old vinyl record can be an original from a well-known singer in the so-called "Oldies" era.
Collector's Items
Although not as popularly used today as they had been at the peak of their popularity, vinyl records are still among the items that collectors pay a lot for. In fact, a rare vinyl record could even sell at several hundred or even thousand dollars!
Finding Records
You might be surprised how easy it is to find this kind of records these days - even decades after their heyday. Try to check out online listings for a vinyl record store - you may even be able to find one in your locality. The internet is also a good place to order records - some sites may even sell collector's items and rare records at reasonable prices. You will just have to ensure that you are dealing with authentic stores that sell authentic records - remember that the quality of the record will depend on the quality if the vinyl material that it was made of. Also, it is preferable to buy heavier records - 180 to 220 g than the 125 g made of lighter but less durable combinations of polyvinyl chloride.
The Album Cover
Most of the album covers of the records are actually works of art in their own right - making them even more precious to collectors. In your quest to find rare records, you'll also be able to find rare works of art. To make the most out of this quest, check out the local stores where you can see the records for yourself.
Even with advances in technology, vinyl records are definitely here to stay - be they as collector's items or as audio tools for DJs and music artists.
